IA Concepts
Information assurance (IA) is a field evolved from Information Security which encompasses the practice of managing risks related to the use of processing, storage, and transmission of information or data and the systems and processes used for that purpose.
Risk Assessment is the process of identifying and quantifying risks, assets, threats, threat agents, vulnerabilities, and mitigations, to provide a means for managing those risks.
Vulnerability Assessment is the process of identifying, quantifying and prioritizing weaknesses, or the attack surface, or chain of attack, of an information system(s) and/or network.
Business Continuity (BC) is identifying mission critical assets and maximum recovery times as well as the series of steps, triggers and thresholds to ensure business continuity in the event of some specific incident or event.
Disaster recovery (DR) the process, policies and procedures that are related to preparing for recovery or continuation of technology infrastructure which are vital to an organization after a natural or human-induced disaster.
Information Security (InfoSec) is the practice of defending information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, perusal, inspection, recording or destruction.
